What Is A Hash Tag?

A hash tag is a word on Twitter which is prefixed by the hash or pound symbol (#). Hash tags are for putting tweets into categories. For example if you tweet and you want your tweet to be categorized and grouped together with other tweets that are talking about cats, then you either add the cats hash tag #cats to the end of your tweet or you make the word cat in your tweet a hash tag, for example, I adopted two #cats from the shelter today.

So hash tags enable Twitter users to be able to track tweets which are talking about what they are talking about. Also, hash tags are clickable links. When you click on a hash tag you will be sent to page where you will see all tweets that include that particular hash tag that you clicked on.
