What Is A Hash Tag?

twitter_logo A hash tag is a word on Twitter which is prefixed by the hash or pound symbol (#). Hash tags are for putting tweets into categories. For example if you tweet and you want your tweet to be categorized and grouped together with other tweets that are talking about cats, then you either add the cats hash tag #cats to the end of your tweet or you make the word cat in your tweet a hash tag, for example, I adopted two #cats from the shelter today.

So hash tags enable Twitter users to be able to track tweets which are talking about what they are talking about. Also, hash tags are clickable links. When you click on a hash tag you will be sent to page where you will see all tweets that include that particular hash tag that you clicked on.

Twitbacks: Free Twitter Backgrounds

Branding yourself sends a message about what you are about and what you stand for to people, and branding yourself on Twitter is no different because branding yourself on Twitter sends a message about what you are about and what you stand for to people who will have access to you on Twitter. So to send a message to people on Twitter about what you are about and what you stand for you have to brand yourself and you can brand yourself on Twitter through many ways but one great and common way is to get a Twitter background which can help you in branding yourself. The default Twitter backgrounds that are on Twitter are not good for branding so you have to get one from outside Twitter. So where on the outside do you get a Twitter background? You get it from Twitbacks.

Twitbacks is a web service which creates great Twitter backgrounds and gives them out for free to the public. Twitbacks has a lot of Twitter backgrounds for you to get for free and if you don’t like the Twitter backgrounds that they have created, they give you the option of creating your own Twitter background for free. To be able to get a Twitter background from Twitbacks you must register an account with them.

After you have chosen or created your Twitter background, they give you the option of automatically uploading the Twitter background to your Twitter account for you or you downloading the Twitter background onto your computer and uploading it onto your Twitter account yourself.

Light Burst Blue Sidebar

Light Burst Blue Sidebar

With Twitter backgrounds from Twitbacks you can add the links to your social networks profiles, and you can also add a photo, logo, biography (bio) of yourself, and even your phone number and email address.

Twitbacks also help promote your Twitter profile for you but with that one you don’t get it for free, you will have to pay some cash.

To see a twitter background from Twitbacks in full working mode, you can go to my personal Twitter account @shirleyszone, as at the time of this writing I’m using a twitter background from Twitbacks, and you can also go to the Twitter profile of Twitbacks @twitbacks because they are using one of their own Twitter backgrounds (obviously).

Twitter Lists, What Are They?

twitter_logoOn October 30th, 2009, which was some few days ago, Twitter made a new feature available to all Twitter users. This new feature is called Twitter lists.

So what are Twitter lists?

Twitter lists are a way of grouping Twitter users you are interested in and this can include Twitter users you are following and those you are not following, for example friends, family members, classmates, etc. The Twitter list of the people you are interested in will showcase the latest tweets of those people. Any Twitter user can follow a Twitter list and when the person does it doesn’t mean he or she is individually following all the Twitter users on that particular Twitter list but he or she is rather following the Twitter list as a whole meaning he or she is following the Twitter list only and not any Twitter user in that list.

An example of a Twitter list is the Twitter team list which was created by Twitter themselves. Also a Twitter list can be public or private.

A public Twitter list is a list which can be seen by anyone. When I say anyone I mean anyone on the internet who goes to the page of the Twitter list will be able to see it.

A private Twitter list is a list which can only be seen by the creator of that particular Twitter list. Not even those listed in that particular Twitter list can see the list, it’s only the creator. So it’s a secret list.

So far at the time of this writing my personal Twitter account @shirleyszone and Shirley’s Tech Zone’s Twitter account @ShirleysTechZ have both been added to three Twitter lists each by other Twitter users. I haven’t created a list in @shirleyszone or @ShirleysTechZ yet. I think I will be doing that soon.

So have you created any Twitter lists? Or have you been added to any Twitter lists? Please share it with us in the comments field. Thanks :).

FriendOrFollow: Find Who Is Not Following You Back And Who You Are Not Following Back

Sometimes on Twitter people unfollow you and you don’t know about it and sometimes people follow you back but you miss following them back probably because you follow people back manually and you don’t use a mass follow back Twitter service or application. So how then do you know these people who are not following you back and these people you are not following them back? Well, this is where FriendOrFollow comes in.

FriendOrFollow is a Twitter web service which lets you find out who you are following but is not following you back and who is following you but you are not following back.

FriendOrFollow

To get to know who you are following but is not following you back and/or who is following you but you are not following back with FriendOrFollow, on the FriendOrFollow homepage enter your Twitter username into the input bar which says “your twitter username” and then click “Submit”.

When you do this you will be taken to a tab page where you are shown who you are following but is not following you back. This tab page is named “following”.

FriendOrFollow Tabs

To know who is following you but you are not following back click on the tab which says “fans”, and to know all those you are following that are following you back click “friends”.

FriendOrFollow is a tool I use almost everyday to check those who I’m following but are not following me back and those who are following me but I’m not following them back. I must say that FriendOrFollow is very helpful to me and I think that it would be very helpful to you too if you try it out. It’s a very good tool.

Have you used FriendOrFollow before? If so what do you think about it? If you haven’t used FriendOrFollow before, is there any other tool that you use to check those who you are following but are not following you back and those who are following you but you are not following them back? Please share it with us in the comments field. Thanks :).

Windows 7 Cost Or Price

Windows 7 Picture 6The cost or price of Windows 7 isn’t fixed. It actually depends on where you are buying from, the version of Windows 7, and the type of Windows 7. Now let me explain why the price or cost of Windows 7 depends on these factors further to you below.

Where you are buying from: It depends on where you are buying from because not all stores be it online or offline will offer the same prices for Windows 7 and so the price will differ from place to place and the location of where you are buying from will thus affect the pricing of your Windows 7 copy.

The Edition of Windows 7: The edition of Windows 7 that you are buying also affects the pricing of the copy of Windows 7 that you will be buying because the price of every different edition of Windows 7 will definitely differ from one another but the difference won’t be all that big and they will all be in the same price range.

The Version of Windows 7: The version of Windows 7 that you are buying also affects the pricing of the copy of Windows 7 that you will buy or be buying. But first of all when I say the version of Windows 7 what do I mean? When I say the version of Windows 7 I mean whether you are buying an upgrade version of Windows 7 or full version of Windows 7. So the version of Windows 7 that you are buying be it an upgrade version or a full version will also affect the pricing of the copy of Windows 7 that you will buy or be buying because an upgrade version of Windows 7 will have a different price and a full version of Windows 7 will also have a different price.

So when you ask the price of the Windows 7 one can’t give you one fixed price as the price of Windows 7 because it mostly depends on these factors that I have talked about above.

But I will list below the price of Windows 7 in the US as announced by Microsoft on the Windows 7 Team blog.

Price of Windows 7 In The US As Announced By Microsoft

Windows 7 Full Version Price or Cost

  • Windows 7 Home Premium (Full): $199.99
  • Windows 7 Professional (Full): $299.99
  • Windows 7 Ultimate (Full): $319.99

Windows 7 Upgrade Version Price or Cost

  • Windows 7 Home Premium (Upgrade): $119.99
  • Windows 7 Professional (Upgrade): $199.99
  • Windows 7 Ultimate (Upgrade): $219.99

Poll: Will You Get A Copy Of Windows 7?

Windows 7 Picture 6 Windows 7 was officially launched and released to the public three days ago and the excitement about it from the public has so far been high. So I was wondering people are going to get a copy of Windows 7, or if some are going to stick to their Windows Vistas and their Windows XPs, or perhaps some who downloaded the Windows 7 RC are going to stick their Windows 7 RC till it expires next year in 2010, and as a result of this I have decided to conduct a poll and see if the majority of people are going to get Windows 7, stick with their Windows Vistas or Windows XPs, stick with their Windows 7 RCs till their expirations or whatever that they are going to do about the getting of a copy of Windows 7.

So will you get a copy of Windows 7? Please share your answer with us by voting below. Thanks :).

Windows 7 Has Been Officially Released Today

Windows 7 Picture 6 Uh……wasn’t it just yesterday that the Windows 7 Beta was released to the public? Oh, it’s been months now? Wow, I can’t believe it’s been months now since the Windows 7 Beta was released to the public and now today is the day that the full version of Windows 7 has been officially launched and released.

It’s an awesome and exciting feeling for me and I know that it is for many others too because it’s been kind of a long and exciting wait and I just can’t imagine and believe how far we’ve come in the Windows 7 development and release journey and now we are finally at the end of this journey. A journey which included not knowing when Windows 7 was going to be released and expecting the release date’s official announcement from Microsoft, knowing the official release date of Windows 7 but can’t wait for that day to come, and making friends who had the same interest of Windows 7 as you do both online and offline. I think it’s been an exciting, fun-filled, awesome, benefiting, and experienced filled journey.

But if this journey has ended, the excitement and adventure is not yet over because another new journey is beginning today. And what’s this new journey that I’m saying is beginning today? It’s the journey of discovering what Windows 7 entails or includes, trying and getting to know new features in Windows 7, not knowing how to do some things on Windows 7 and finding them out later yourself true trial and error or finding them out by searching on the web or asking people. So for me it’s going to be a whole new exciting journey :).

Are you excited about the official release of Windows 7? What do you think about Windows 7? Please share it with us.

A Monthly Recap Feature Will Now Be Included In Shirley’s Tech Zone

I have decided to add a monthly recap feature to this blog (Shirley’s Tech Zone).

By the way, what do I mean by a monthly recap? By a monthly recap, I mean after a month goes to an end I will summarize and list all the posts and articles that were published here that particular month.

Why did I decide to include a monthly recap feature in Shirley’s Tech Zone? I decided to include a monthly recap feature into Shirley’s Tech Zone because I have realized that not all the readers of Shirley’s Tech Zone are able to come to Shirley’s Tech Zone and read every post or article that is published, so some of the readers might have missed a post or article or two and I don’t want any of my readers (which includes you :) ) to miss any of my posts or articles because I know you value my posts and articles and you wouldn’t want to miss any, so that is why I decided to include the monthly recap feature in Shirley’s Tech Zone.

But RSS is there to send your posts updates to your readers, so they won’t miss any of your posts or articles or you can even use a newsletter for this, why not use one of these instead of the monthly recap feature? Well good question. RSS (most often translated as “Really Simple Syndication” but sometimes translated as “Rich Site Summary”) sure is there to send my blog posts and articles updates to my readers, so they won’t miss any of my posts or articles but not everyone subscribes to RSS or likes to receive updates via RSS so I have to create another way for my readers who don’t like or use RSS to get all my posts and articles and not miss any of them. Now talking about RSS if you like RSS or use RSS to subscribe to the updates of the blogs and websites that you like, then you can subscribe to Shirley’s Tech Zone feed updates and receive my new posts and articles anytime they are published. Also regarding the use of a newsletter, Shirley’s Tech Zone has a weekly newsletter which was launched a week or so ago, even though the weekly newsletter includes a week wrap up or recap of Shirley’s Tech Zone posts and articles just like the situation with the RSS, not everybody likes to receive newsletters or many newsletters in their email inbox so the monthly recap feature will serve as another way for those who don’t like to receive newsletters or many newsletters in their email inbox to not miss any of the posts and articles that are published on Shirley’s Tech Zone. Talking about newsletters, if you like to receive newsletters in your email inbox then join Shirley’s Tech Zone mailing list and receive Shirley’s Tech Zone Weekly Newsletter in your email inbox every week. You can find the mailing list form on the right sidebar of this blog.

Get Loads and Loads of Free Twitter Logos from TwitterLogos.com

Twitter You might be a website owner, blog owner, webmaster, or a manager of a blog and you might be wanting a twitter logo, button, or icon for your website or blog for your users or readers to know that you are on twitter and they can follow you there or should follow you there but you just can’t find a place where you can get tonnes of free twitter logos, buttons, or icons to choose from and make your choice or you have found several twitter logos, buttons, or icons online, some which are free and others which are not but they just don’t have the beauty and touch that you want for your website. Well, relax now and be happy because I have found a great resource online which has a huge collection of free twitter logos, buttons, icons and more.

This great resource I found online is a website called Twitterlogos.com. Twitterlogos.com contains a huge collection of free Twitter logos, Twitter buttons, Twitter icons and more. The Twitter logos, buttons, icons and more are not created by Twitterlogos.com but they are rather submitted by designers. Some of the designers also provide custom designs of the Twitter logos, buttons, and icons so if you want a custom Twitter logo, button, or icon created for you you will need to contact the designers directly and not Twitterlogos because Twitterlogos are not the creators of any of the Twitter logos, buttons, and icons on the Twitterlogos.com website.

So if you want to get a Twitter logo, button, or icon for your website or blog, go to the Twitterlogos.com website and search for the Twitter logo, button, or icon of your choice.

Please note: To get or search for a Twitter logo, button, or icon from Twitterlogos.com does not require any registration or signing up on the side of Twitterlogos.com and also Twitterlogos.com is not affiliated with Twitter.

How to Make your Twitter Account Private

Twitter While most people on Twitter want their Twitter accounts to be discovered by the whole world and have many followers, there are some who would prefer a quiet place in the world of twitter and have their Twitter account in the private mode so that they would approve those who they want to share their private Twitter account with. So if you are one of those who would love to have their Twitter accounts private and hidden from the world but don’t know how to make their Twitter accounts private, then you have come to the right place. I will teach you how to make your Twitter account private below. So don’t go anywhere :) .

To make your Twitter account private please follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to your Twitter account.
  2. When signed in to your Twitter account, on the top right corner of your Twitter account you will see some links. Click the link named Settings and you will be taken to the settings page of your Twitter account.
  3. On the settings page of your Twitter account, you will see some tabs named Account, Password, and so on to mention a few. When you are taken to your Twitter account settings page as stated in step 2, you will be automatically taken to the Account tab in the settings page of your Twitter account because it has been set by default by Twitter that you are taken to the Account tab whenever you open your Twitter account’s settings page.
  4. Okay so in your Account tab, you will see a form which you already filled during your Twitter sign up process, at the bottom of the form you will see a check box which has an inscription beside it and the inscription says Protect my tweets. Check this check box. When you check this check box Twitter will only let people you approve follow your tweets and you will not be on the public timeline (the public timeline is where twitter shows all the latest tweets being tweeted by all twitter users).

Get 120 Days of Free Windows 7 Usage Instead of 30

Windows 7 Picture 6 When you get a copy of Windows 7 Microsoft allows you to try it for free for only 30 days, and that might not be enough for some people or let me just say most people. So how do you go about getting more than 30 days of free trial of Windows 7 when you get a copy? Well, fortunately there is a solution and the solution is from of Woody Leonhard of Windows Secrets. Woody has devised a way or should I say a solution for you to be able to use your copy of Windows 7 for a free trial of 120 whopping days instead of 30 and he talks about it here in his Use any version of Windows 7 free for 120 days article. In this same article, he also talks about how to install Windows 7 Ultimate now and pay less later and converting Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 7 Pro (Professional) or Windows 7 Home Premium, so this article by Woody is a very great resource for all those who are using Windows 7, all those who will be using Windows 7, and all those who are learning about Windows 7 and are interested in Windows 7.
